Katelyn Sills Expelled

As you may recall, Stand up and Speak Out is run by Katelyn Sills, a sophomore at Loretto High School, a Catholic School in Sacramento.

The Sills family has recently been under attack because Wynette Sills, Katelyn's mother, complained that a teacher at the school had been volunteering at a Planned Parenthood clinic.

Now Katelyn reports that she has been expelled, without notice, from Loretto:

President Bush's Plan Part ll

UPDATE: Ahem, ahem. Last week some thought I was a bit out there with this post. Today, I'm hearing some say this isn't so far fetched.

Today's news: BUSH PICKS ALITO FOR SUPREME COURT

Alito is exactly who should be the nominee. And now the party will come together with tremendous strength and fight the left. The emotional, knee-jerk ultra-conservative Republicans are finally happy, and the moderate, press-loving Republicans have been warned to shut up and vote for confirmation.

Alito will be confirmed. And Harriet Miers and President Bush already know that.

White Sox Trump Miers For CBS

This just cracks me up:

At his first editorial meeting of the "CBS Evening News" since being named president of CBS News last week, Sean McManus listened to the proposed rundown for that night's program: Harriet E. Miers' troubled nomination for the Supreme Court; the possible indictments of I. Lewis Libby Jr. and Karl Rove in connection with the leaking of the name of a CIA agent, the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma and the World Series victory of the Chicago White Sox.

He took aim at Rove, whose actions were probed by Special Counsel Patrick J. Fitzgerald. Rove is reportedly still under investigation.

"I think Karl Rove should step down," Reid said about the White House deputy chief of staff. "Here is a man who the president said if he was involved, if anyone in the administration was involved, out they would go. Anybody who is involved in this, they're gone."

Rule number one, don't lie to the FBI

Rules are broken everyday. Laws are broken almost as often, by you and me and everyone else with a pulse. It seems that Scooter Libby was loyal to the Vice president and the administration to a fault. After Joe Wilson lied about being sent to Niger, Libby wanted to defend his boss and defuse the story Wilson was telling about the yellow cake controversy. Wilson was pretending the Vice President sent him and didn't like the report he came back with, back in the real world, it was his wife who sent Wilson to Niger seemingly to discredit pre-war intelligence presented by the White House. He never issued a report, he went straight for the press to get his fable into the news cycle.

My Last Post on Miers

My take on the Conservative Borking of Ms. Miers is this.
I thought there was a conservative team that was fighting upstream for 25 years to turn this country around. I thought we were making good progress but have a long way to go and that we are a long way from governing from strength and conviction since we don't have a conservative majority in the Senate despite having a small Republican majority. I thought our President was a proven master at moving his agenda forward and that he deserved our support with the Miers nomination and the basis of his record on judicial appointments. Read on.

St. Cindy Martyrs Self (again) at White House

Oh Cindy, how we missed you and your pained face in the news, whining, whining, whining. But you managed to get back to us through your acts of civil disobedience and martyrdom (on behalf of mothers everywhere).

Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan and 25 other protesters were arrested Wednesday night in front of the White House. The protesters had staged the first day of what they say will be a week-long vigil to mourn the deaths of U.S. military in Iraq, which this week reached the 2,000 mark.U.S. park police shift commander Lieutenant Kathleen Harasek told CNN the protesters were arrested as they lay on the sidewalk in front of the White House and were charged with civil disobedience.

Cheney Adviser Resigns After Indictment
Oct 28 3:04 PM US/Eastern

By JOHN SOLOMON and PETE YOST
Associated Press Writers ( I'd have used an alias)

The vice president's chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby Jr., was indicted Friday on charges of obstruction of justice, perjury and making false statements in the CIA leak investigation, a politically charged case that casts a harsh light on President Bush's push to war.Libby, 55, resigned and left the White House.

Karl Rove, Bush's closest adviser, escaped indictment Friday but remained under investigation, his legal status casting a dark cloud over a White House already in trouble. The U.S. military death toll in Iraq exceeded 2,000 this week, and the president's approval ratings are at the lowest point since he took office in 2001. (your point is...?)

Libby Indicted for Obstruction, Not for Leak

Once again we have an indictment for lying during an investigation, without any indictment of the original crime being alleged.

But this is a Republican Special Prosecutor.

If a Democratic dog bites someone, or a Republican Dog bites someone, did it bite the person because of it's party affiliation, or because it is a dog?

I'm not calling the prosecutor a dog, merely making an analogy, if it's the nature of the beast to bite, it will bite.

(Let Tookie Live Update) Something for Christians to consider…

For those who are either not believers or are not mature in their faith, the Christian concept of redemption or forgiveness can be difficult to fully understand. It is only natural to believe that there are some crimes that are beyond forgiveness. For those who don’t know the Word, the idea that murders, rapists and even child molesters could find their way into heaven is repugnant. And the thought that God could use anyone who is guilty of such evil… The idea that he could use a man like Stanley Williams, the founder of the Crips and a convicted murderer… well that is too much for some to handle.

But for those of us who are believers and are mature in the things of God, we know that this would not be the first time God has redeemed a murderer, a persecutor of the righteous and used him for his glory. If God could use the Apostle Paul, could he use Stanley "Tookie" Williams?

I cringe every time I hear the phrase “There ought to be a Law.” Every time we pass a law, by definition we are restricting Freedom. Much of the law we have comes from logical choices to restrict the way we mistreat our fellow humans. Was Harriet Miers setup for failure?

I haven’t commented at all on the nomination of Harriett Miers to the Supreme Court, because I really wasn’t sure what to think of her. Like many, I was hoping that something… anything would come out to shine light on her candidacy and explain why President Bush thought she was a good choice to serve on the Supreme Court. That something never showed up. That ace in the hole was never played. And now that Miers has withdrawn her name from consideration, one is left thinking….Why did President Bush set Miers up to failure?

The Harriet Miers nomination - the good the bad and the ugly.

I have been a supporter of Harriet Miers because I support the President. She would have not been my first pick, she may have never been my pick because I don't know much about her, and still don't. Make no mistake, this will be a short term hit to the President, and a lifetime stigma to Miers, however her withdrawal will save the President and the Republican party from a disaster that would have occurred if Miers' Senate hearings would have gone foreword. I read a post last night that made me rethink my support of Miers. Captain Ed had a post that convinced me that Miers would be made to look very foolish in front of Joe Biden and the other members of the Judicial committee.

President Bush's Plan

This morning at 5:00 am Sacramento time, Harriet Meirs pulled herself out of the nomination process for the Supreme Court.

There is no coincidence in life. Everything happens for a reason.

Oh My! Surprise! Wow, how can she? Or did the President make her???

Or not.

President Bush knew exactly what he was doing when he nominated Harriet and so did she.The President knew that no matter who he nominated, the "moderate" looser Republicans would give him grief, they would whine and bloviate their "concern" for the level of "conservatism" in the nominee.

With Harriet's nomination, her stealth life made for much discourse and a break in the party. The hardcore conservative pundits were appalled with her nomination and insulted that President Bush did not take their advise. The moderates weren't sure they could get behind her either.

Both groups said "if you just give us a real conservative with a strong voting record and ideology, we'll come together and get this person onto the Supreme Court.

"Viola! Today the President has everyone in the party exactly where he wants them.

Now sit back and watch the fun.

I support the President and Harriet Miers

George Bush is not my prefect president. He is, however, a better man than this nation deserves. One area where he has stood firm is with his judicial appointments. Without firm support from a limp wristed Senate, he has managed to get some outstanding new judges on the federal bench and a home run new Chief Justice. Now he has nominated Harriet Miers for a position on the Supreme Court and both he and his nominee get crucified, not by the ACLU or liberal Democrats but by Republican politicians and conservative pundits. I am fed up with this backbiting by people who want to be thought important and don't care about the impact of what they are doing.

Wanted: Conservative Candidate for State Treasurer

Bill Simon is out of the race for State Treasurer:

Bill Simon, the investor and philanthropist who was the Republican nominee against Gray Davis in 2002, has sent a letter to supporters informing them that he won’t be a candidate for state treasurer next year as he had planned.

In the letter, Simon cites the oft-used “personal” reasons for backing out, saying he wants to spend more time with his family. But this is one case where that might actually be true. Simon has confided in friends in recent months that the unanticipated pressures involved in caring for their developmentally disabled 17-year-old son have been all-consuming for him and his wife, Cindy. Still, Simon says he hopes to run again for public office again in the future.

This is most unfortunate because out of all of our candidates running for statewide office besides Governor or Lt. Governor, Bill Simon had the best chance of winning.

Labor Unions have too much influence in the Capitol?
Say it aint so.
Sacramento -- At an April 13 meeting of a state Assembly budget subcommittee, two executives with California's prison guards union enjoyed an unusual vantage point as the committee discussed the state's corrections department.

Instead of sitting in the audience or at a table where bureaucrats or interest groups typically sit to testify, the members of the California Correctional Peace Officers Association were positioned on the raised dais -- spots normally reserved for lawmakers.

Department of Corrections administrators found themselves looking up at the union representatives, who sat alongside the assemblyman running the meeting.

An new children’s book bashing the left has provoked comments from the staff of New York Senator, Hillary Clinton. Apparently they do not appreciate the fact that the arch-villan of "Help! Mom! There Are Liberals Under My Bed!" bears an uncanny resemblance to Sen. Clinton.

Sexual Preditor Bill gets Polluted

Post: Sexual Preditor Bill gets Polluted. Link

Attacked if he Does; Attacked if he Doesn't

Democrats are now upset with Governor Schwarzenegger for not meeting with President Bush during his trip to California this week:

Democrats capitalized on the rift in the Republican Party by staging a press conference Thursday morning urging the governor to meet with the president to fulfill his campaign promise to be a "collectinator" of federal dollars for the state.

"I would urge the governor to put his hurt feelings aside, stop the feuding and go meet with the president and see if we can get some money we desperately need to balance the budget," said Assembly Majority Leader Dario Frommer, D-Glendale.

Important Week in History

Stalin the Shark reminds us that this week is the 200th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.

What is so significant about that battle is that it was Napolean’s first major defeat to the British. It proved Britian as the superior navel power, and for the most part made Napoleon give up hope of conquering Britain.

This Battle basically marks the beginning of the decline of Napoleon.

Someone Finally Sees the Illegal Immigration Problem

It seems that someone in Washington has finally gotten serious about the problem of illegal immigration:

Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said his department aims without exception to expel all those who enter the United States illegally."

"Our goal at DHS (Homeland Security) is to completely eliminate the 'catch and release' enforcement problem, and return every single illegal entrant, no exceptions."

"It should be possible to achieve significant and measurable progress to this end in less than a year," Chertoff told a Senate hearing.

I found this story on the internet today:

But after she [18 year old Guevara] moved into a friend's basement in Bellerose Terrace in March, Guevara did something her mother didn't see coming: She sued her parents for child support in Nassau Family Court.

"I didn't get along with my mother, so I decided to move out and get my own place," said Guevara. "I love my mom, but I wasn't feeling right living there."

"Conservatives Will Continue To Focus On Making History"

I am compelled to post an article from a great American Conservative, one who so beautifully and succinctly sumarized conservatism in an article he wrote for the Wall Street Journal (everyone should have a subscription to the WSJ). Can you guess who this is?

"I love being a conservative. We conservatives are proud of our philosophy. Unlike our liberal friends, who are constantly looking for new words to conceal their true beliefs and are in a perpetual state of reinvention, we conservatives are unapologetic about our ideals. We are confident in our principles and energetic about openly advancing them. We believe in individual liberty, limited government, capitalism, the rule of law, faith, a color-blind society and national security. We support school choice, enterprise zones, tax cuts, welfare reform, faith-based initiatives, political speech, homeowner rights and the war on terrorism. And at our core we embrace and celebrate the most magnificent governing document ever ratified by any nation--the U.S. Constitution. Along with the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes our God-given natural right to be free, it is the foundation on which our government is built and has enabled us to flourish as a people."

DA Earle Tried to Coerce Delay Into Guilty Plea

More evidence that DA Ronnie Earle is just out to damage the political career of Tom Delay:

A Texas prosecutor tried to persuade Rep. Tom DeLay to plead guilty to a misdemeanor and save his job as majority leader but DeLay refused, the congressman's attorney said Monday.

Dick DeGuerin described such an effort in a letter to the prosecutor in the case, Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle.

DeLay has been indicted on conspiracy and money laundering charges in a Texas campaign finance investigation, both felonies. He was obligated to step aside under House Republican rules.

"Before the first indictment you tried to coerce a guilty plea from Tom DeLay for a misdemeanor, stating the alternative was indictment for a felony which would require his stepping down as majority leader of the United States House of Representatives," DeGuerin wrote.

Unions' Lies on Display

I got an e-mail from a reader about Proposition 74. Since I have a policy that anything you send to me can be published unless you say otherwise, I will respond to it here:

It's not about good teachers, it's about bad administrators. Under the new law a principal will be able to fire, without any tangible reason, a teacher they do not like, and give performance as the reason. Say, for instance, a principal sees one of your favorite teachers holding hands in a movie theater with a person from another race, or politicking in favor of a candidate or cause the principal is against, there will be nothing keeping the principal from firing the teacher on trumped up charges. Remember: no hearing for the teacher.

That's not true at all. The School Board will still be charged with firing teachers. And the teachers will still get a hearing.

The principals will evaluate the teachers, yes. But they could not alone fire them.

The DOJ Cracks Down on Non-Profits

Before I start on this topic, let me just start out by saying, I think gambling one’s paycheck away to casino is not healthy, not moral and not wise.

That said, what is happening to non-profits which use these “casino nights” to raise money for charities is wrong. There is a major difference between gambling in a casino who keeps all the money lost by the participants, and the giving of the house “winnings” to a good cause such as fighting cancer or putting money into the education system. There is also a societal difference between the two entities.

A "Right "Student

In Enchanting Biff's (my 16-year old son, Junior at C.K. McClatchy) class today the teacher brought up abortion. The teacher actually introduced the abortion subject, offering that liberals believe in pro-choice, ie. ability to have an on-demand abortion, and conservatives are pro-life, ie. no abortions.

Enchanting Biff relayed the class discussion to us at dinner. Several of the girls offered their "right" to have an abortions... it's their body... men don't have a say... etc...

Enchanting Biff said he waited for a while, then started in on the class. He reported that he offered the following:

Washington Needs a "Fix"

Emmett Tyrrell writes an excellent piece explaining why so many of the Conservatives are lamenting the nomination of Harriet Meirs to the Supreme Court. Read Mutiny of the bored for a sense of what and why Washington insiders are in need of a constant excitement "fix."

To the excitement of all Washington, the hullabaloo over President George W. Bush's nomination of Harriet E. (and you can be sure the Senate Judiciary Committee will get to the bottom of this mysterious "E" in due course) Miers builds, picking up wails and execrations daily. What makes the excitement so irresistible is that conservatives have now joined with liberals in fuming over the president's judicial nominee. Well, as the philosopher Samuel Goldwyn was wont to say, "include me out."

Was the New Orleans Police Beating Justified?

Have you heard about this case in which a man was beaten by police n New Orleans?

I kind of find myself on the fence on whether the police did any wrongdoing. It certainly seems unnecessary from the tape, but what happened before the cameras started rolling? We don’t and probably never will know.

On the other hand, I have seen the man who was beaten on TV and he seems like a trustworthy guy. And furthermore, the City of New Orleans has been hesitant to defend the officer’s actions.

If there is one good thing that is good about this, it is that the man did not immediately try to claim race as a factor.

How Low Will They Go?

I found this disgusting piece in the SF Chronicle today, by Jon Carroll:

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who as you'll recall reached stardom by pretending to kill, maim, slaughter, decapitate, disembowel and otherwise eliminate various humans whom he deemed (for plot purposes) to be undeserving of continued life, last week signed a bill placing restrictions on the sale of "overly violent" video games.

The money quote: "This bill gets the parents involved in the decision-making process. I am a parent myself, and I think it is extremely important that we know what our kids are watching or what kinds of games they play."

One is tempted to ask concerned parent Schwarzenegger if he could, for instance, name his kids' best friends, or their favorite foods, or even their heights within 3 inches.

Censorship at Granite Bay High

Before he graduated last Spring, Ryan Clark Holiday wrote a piece in his student newspaper, The Granite Bay Gazette, about how the school’s media program was basically just wasting money. It was designed to get the media program to examine itself.

Keep Kids Smart Act

Note: The below article is my shameless attempt at parody.

As you may have heard, the California Democratic Party along with Planned Parenthood and others are opposing Proposition 73, which would require parents be notified when teens receive abortions.

In fact, I would suggest taking this another step further.

Mary Mapes is coming out with a book, including her part in Rathergate, or at least her version of what happened. No telling if there will be a chapter on her outright fabrication of the police shooting in Seattle that got her run out of town.

Governor signs 'Wild and Scenic' bill

A bill that will only effect a few thousand farmers in Yolo and Lake Counties was signed today in Sacramento. The State designation of "Wild and Scenic" to the 31 mile stretch of Cache Creek is the first step towards an eventual, and inevitable Federal designation.

So what you may say, I don't want anyone to dam Cache Creek. That was the straw man that the environmentalists stood up before the public. No dams, leave the creek wild. Sounds good, right?

Organizational Morality

What about the poor people?

If there were one thing that separates the left from the right in this country and is the single most defining issue, it would be the proper way to help the poor people.

There are an infinite number of things that could be done with taxes. Most of these could be under the heading of “It’s a good cause.”

Where we need to focus is on the single one thing that Satan has deceived a large number of people on this planet. Organizational Morality. Also known as Socialism.

A Nation of Used Cars

My mother told me about the birds and the bees when the subject first came up. She said she waited until I was curious to tell me about it and that was the way and the when that God and nature had intended for it to be taught. If it is brought up sooner, then children will become curious before they were intended to be. They often are not able to handle the shock and will think about it more than they should.

Abbas is claiming ''he would bombard Ariel Sharon with demands'' but Hamas is competing for control of Gaza. Mahmoud Zahar, the most senior leader of Hamas in Gaza is espousing a ''a vision of an Islamic society that bans mixed dancing and sternly disapproves of homosexuality''.

As Hamas and the Palestinian Authority square off....

OOPS! Maybe Our Membership Actually Supports This

Gee, the news on the Special election is getting better every day!

It turns out that Union members may not oppose Proposition 75 after all:

As they mobilize to defeat a ballot measure that could sharply limit their political activities, unions are finding one of their toughest jobs is persuading their own members to oppose it.

Proposition 75 on the Nov. 8 special-election ballot would prohibit public-employee unions from using dues for political purposes without written consent from members. And just like the last time this issue was put to a popular vote, many union members support the measure on its face, seeing it as an issue of basic fairness.

Yee Of Little Faith

I am growing weary hearing the flapping jaws from conservatives about President Bush's most recent nomination to the Supreme Court, Harriet Miers.

This is the weak link in our party. It is embarassing and frankly, shameful. The behavior smacks of elitism from the left; the "I'm smarter than you" attitude we usually see from our leftie brothers and sisters. Your bewailing is only nourishing the MSM.

Hugh Hewitt comments: "Continuing the assault on Miers means committing to her defeat, an event that would be one of the more remarkable exercises in political self-destruction in memory. Though the GOP is poised to pick up seats in the Senate in 2006 --in Florida, West Virginia, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Washington State, to name just six possibilities-- the decision to turn on the president is decision the injure those chances. "Activists" will say this reasoning "blames the victim." Nonsense. They have no reason to doubt the president's judgment of this nominee, only that they'd have preferred another. "

Story that will Trash DeLay's Indictment

RC: The forman of the Grand Jury already had his mind made up about indighting DeLay... The foremen went onto a local talk radio show in Austin and said such.

Talk about "Doctor Shopping"? what about Jury shopping?

This DA went to three Grand Juries trying to get an indictment.

DeLay Indictment is a Fraud

It appears to me that those on that grand jury were hand-picked by that partisan hack that has a bone to pick since we won Texas.

Bush Picks Miers For Supreme Court

President Bush has nominated White House Counsel Harriet Miers to the US Supreme Court.

Many conservatives have called this a disappointing choice. They site Miers relative obscurity and lack of judicial experience, as well as that she contributed to Democrats during the 1980s.

However, I disagree.

Jesus Supports Same-Sex Marriage…So says California Democrats, NOT JESUS!

Last month, as I watched to debate on the resurrected Same-Sex Marriage Bill (AB 849-Kuehl) , I suffered through the endless sea of Democrats who stood up to comment on the bill. I bit my tongue when they ignorantly compared same-sex marriage to interracial marriage. I let it go when they misrepresented the values of the founding fathers. But I utterly lost my mind when Democrat after Democrat walked to the microphone and misquoted the bible and blasphemed the word of God!

I was so angry, that they would totally pervert the word in order to pervert marriage that I could not contain myself. The worst part was that not one “Christian” conservative legislator got up to correct them. Well, thank God for Ralph Drollinger of Capitol Ministries; because he did!

Bush's Second Nomination...

President Bush has made his nomination; Harriet Miers from his “inner circle” is to take Justice O’Conner’s place on the Supreme Court. Miers is 60 years old. If confirmed that would give her roughly 20 or so years to serve on the bench, not exactly a short run.

Life in Prison Means, Life in Prison

The New York Times seems surprised that more and more people sentenced to life in prison are dying behind bars, and they don't seem to like it.

I have to admit to being amazed that they are surprised.

As a society we have to decide if we think prison is about rehabilitation or punishment, and if it is about punishment and we are queasy about the death penalty (I am not), then life in prison without parole will be a reality for some.
...........driven by tougher laws and political pressure on governors and parole boards, thousands of lifers are going into prisons each year, and in many states only a few are ever coming out, even in cases where judges and prosecutors did not intend to put them away forever.
The political pressure is caused by people's desire to....

The Internet - we invented it, we built it, we control it.

Al Gore aside, the US built what became the internet. Now that it is a dominant force in the distribution of information and commerce, we should turn over control to a world bureaucracy? No way Jose.

Do you know what is driving the internet's explosion? Profit. If you can make it go faster, you can make a ton of cash. If you can let people communicate better, more cash.

Only the Euros would think that government control of something that changes at the speed of technology could be regulated by a multi national bureaucracy.
