As you may recall, Stand up and Speak Out is run by Katelyn Sills, a sophomore at Loretto High School, a Catholic School in Sacramento.
The Sills family has recently been under attack because Wynette Sills, Katelyn's mother, complained that a teacher at the school had been volunteering at a Planned Parenthood clinic.
Now Katelyn reports that she has been expelled, without notice, from Loretto:

First it was the 'Wild and Scenic' designation for Cache Creek, now it's the taking of the Conaway Ranch in the name of preservation. I have a question, why do the Yolo County Board of Supervisors feel the need to take private property to 'protect it' when they control the land use policies and the zoning? If they don't want the Conaway Ranch developed, it cannot be done, period.

Rules are broken everyday. Laws are broken almost as often, by you and me and everyone else with a pulse. It seems that Scooter Libby was loyal to the Vice president and the administration to a fault. After Joe Wilson lied about being sent to Niger, Libby wanted to defend his boss and defuse the story Wilson was telling about the yellow cake controversy. Wilson was pretending the Vice President sent him and didn't like the report he came back with, back in the real world, it was his wife who sent Wilson to Niger seemingly to discredit pre-war intelligence presented by the White House. He never issued a report, he went straight for the press to get his fable into the news cycle.

For those who are either not believers or are not mature in their faith, the Christian concept of redemption or forgiveness can be difficult to fully understand. It is only natural to believe that there are some crimes that are beyond forgiveness. For those who don’t know the Word, the idea that murders, rapists and even child molesters could find their way into heaven is repugnant. And the thought that God could use anyone who is guilty of such evil… The idea that he could use a man like Stanley Williams, the founder of the Crips and a convicted murderer… well that is too much for some to handle.

I cringe every time I hear the phrase “There ought to be a Law.” Every time we pass a law, by definition we are restricting Freedom. Much of the law we have comes from logical choices to restrict the way we mistreat our fellow humans. That is to say, Murder, Stealing, etc not only is founded in morals, but it is there to restrict human behavior so as to protect others from harm. Restricting Freedom to harm others is still Force.

I have been a supporter of Harriet Miers because I support the President. She would have not been my first pick, she may have never been my pick because I don't know much about her, and still don't. Make no mistake, this will be a short term hit to the President, and a lifetime stigma to Miers, however her withdrawal will save the President and the Republican party from a disaster that would have occurred if Miers' Senate hearings would have gone foreword. I read a post last night that made me rethink my support of Miers. Captain Ed had a post that convinced me that Miers would be made to look very foolish in front of Joe Biden and the other members of the Judicial committee.

George Bush is not my prefect president. He is, however, a better man than this nation deserves. One area where he has stood firm is with his judicial appointments. Without firm support from a limp wristed Senate, he has managed to get some outstanding new judges on the federal bench and a home run new Chief Justice. Now he has nominated Harriet Miers for a position on the Supreme Court and both he and his nominee get crucified, not by the ACLU or liberal Democrats but by Republican politicians and conservative pundits. I am fed up with this backbiting by people who want to be thought important and don't care about the impact of what they are doing.

Bill Simon is out of the race for State Treasurer:
Bill Simon, the investor and philanthropist who was the Republican nominee against Gray Davis in 2002, has sent a letter to supporters informing them that he won’t be a candidate for state treasurer next year as he had planned.
In the letter, Simon cites the oft-used “personal” reasons for backing out, saying he wants to spend more time with his family. But this is one case where that might actually be true. Simon has confided in friends in recent months that the unanticipated pressures involved in caring for their developmentally disabled 17-year-old son have been all-consuming for him and his wife, Cindy. Still, Simon says he hopes to run again for public office again in the future.
This is most unfortunate because out of all of our candidates running for statewide office besides Governor or Lt. Governor, Bill Simon had the best chance of winning.

Sacramento -- At an April 13 meeting of a state Assembly budget subcommittee, two executives with California's prison guards union enjoyed an unusual vantage point as the committee discussed the state's corrections department.
Instead of sitting in the audience or at a table where bureaucrats or interest groups typically sit to testify, the members of the California Correctional Peace Officers Association were positioned on the raised dais -- spots normally reserved for lawmakers.
Department of Corrections administrators found themselves looking up at the union representatives, who sat alongside the assemblyman running the meeting.

Because Sacramento is the next most vulnerable community after New Orleans where floods are concerned, the SactoDan blog re-endorsed the Auburn Dam shortly after Katrina, and publicly questioned Sacramento's Mayor about it at the Pocket Neighborhood Emergency Preparedness meeting. Mayor Fargo objected to the 200 year flood protection the Auburn Dam would provide because she said achieving 100 year protection was doable, and we shouldn't pass up funding for the levees while waiting for a dam which may never be built.

The teacher actually introduced the abortion subject, offering that liberals believe in pro-choice, ie. ability to have an on-demand abortion, and conservatives are pro-life, ie. no abortions.

The earthquake in northern Pakistan seems to be quite terrible. I have serious doubts about the death toll numbers running so high so fast. Reliable news should start coming out by Monday and my hope is for far fewer confirmed deaths.

A bill that will only effect a few thousand farmers in Yolo and Lake Counties was signed today in Sacramento. The State designation of "Wild and Scenic" to the 31 mile stretch of Cache Creek is the first step towards an eventual, and inevitable Federal designation.

My mother told me about the birds and the bees when the subject first came up. She said she waited until I was curious to tell me about it and that was the way and the when that God and nature had intended for it to be taught. If it is brought up sooner, then children will become curious before they were intended to be. They often are not able to handle the shock and will think about it more than they should.

I know I am late to gate with this story, but I feel that there needs to be some clarifications to this debate.In the Educational system, mainly in the Higher Educational system, and amongst Economist the idea of eliminating a portion of the population to reduce crime rates, abortions, poverty and the like is a common discussion. It is a THEORETICAL discussion but it is discussion.

President Bush has made his nomination; Harriet Miers from his “inner circle” is to take Justice O’Conner’s place on the Supreme Court. Miers is 60 years old. If confirmed that would give her roughly 20 or so years to serve on the bench, not exactly a short run.

The New York Times seems surprised that more and more people sentenced to life in prison are dying behind bars, and they don't seem to like it.
...........driven by tougher laws and political pressure on governors and parole boards, thousands of lifers are going into prisons each year, and in many states only a few are ever coming out, even in cases where judges and prosecutors did not intend to put them away forever.The political pressure is caused by people's desire to....
