Get your Tickets Now to the Eagle Forum of Sacramento's Constitution Day Breakfast

This is a message from Angela Azevedo, Legislative Director for Eagle Forum of California:

What is wrong with Californians? I'll tell you, we've become complacent ... we've forgotten that our Founding Fathers created the greatest legal document ... our U.S. Constitution. Yet our constitutional rights are being trampled every day by a group of legislators who care more about wearing Hugo Chavez lapel pins (Jackie Goldberg) than preserving our American heritage and fundamental rights.

Every American and person of faith should be outraged that Schwarzenegger signed into law SB1441 which will cause any business, Judeo-Christian private schools and universities, any faith-based organization to "condone" the pro-homosexuality agenda or forfeit receiving any funds from the state. Cleary this is unconstitutional and I'm praying that Pacific Justice Institute will pursue filing a lawsuit against this outrageous law that violates our First Amendment right. And there are three or four other bills sitting on his desk that are just as bad, if not worse.

It's not too late to purchase your tickets to Eagle Forum of Sacramento's Constitution Day Breakfast to get to know the most important legal document ever created and to hear uplifting speakers like Brad Dacus and Craig DeLuz who will introduce facts to aid you in a better understanding of the Constitution and how it brought this Nation to greatness. With a newfound appreciation of this Document, we are confident you will leave with a burning desire to preserve this precious Document for future generations ... for our children. Your participation in this fundraiser will help Eagle Forum of Sacramento carry on our work to support our mission ... Protect Our Children For The Survival of America.

Did you know ...

-The Constitution was "penned" by Jacob Shallus, a Pennsylvania General Assembly clerk, for a fee of $30 (equivalent to $300 today)?

-The US Constitution has 4,440 words; it is the oldest and the shortest written constitution of any government in the world.

-It took 100 days to actually "frame" the Constitution.
The word "democracy" does not appear once in the Constitution.

-Our US Constitution was ratified on September 17 "in the Year of Our Lord" 1787 (Article VII, subscription clause)! Its principles are distinctly Biblical!

-Southwest Airlines honors Mexican Independence Day on a bag of peanuts (which just happens to be 9/15), but we Americans fail to honor our own U.S. Constitution?

Please join Eagle Forum of Sacramento to give tribute to OUR U.S. Constitution.

Armitage did it

In his 2003 State of the Union address, President Bush said: "The British government has learned that Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa." Not long after, retired diplomat Joseph Wilson wrote in a new york times op-ed that he knew the president was lying since the CIA had sent him to Niger to see if Saddam had tried to buy uranium there. Wilson told columnist Robert Novak that he was chosen for the Niger mission at the request of Vice President Dick Cheney and that he found no evidence that Saddam had tried to buy uranium in Niger. Wilson's charge marked the beginning of the "Bush lied" meme about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.

Yes on 1C "Cybersquatting"

Last week the Yes on Prop. 87 campaign had to turn over domains such as www.noon87.com back to the opponents' campaign after it was realized that the practice of buying your opponent’s natural domain names, called “cybersquatting”, is illegal. Evidently though, the people supporting Proposition 1C, a $2.8 Billion bond for housing, did not get the message.

Pop Psychology

Ever since hearing about Freud in high school, I’ve had a poor opinion of psychology as a serious intellectual discipline. My opinion was not changed by the mandatory Introduction to Psychology course I took in college nor by the troves of self-help books that promote pop psychology myths (humans are basically good, we all lack self-esteem, you shouldn't judge anyone). So it was a bit discomfiting to find that my Omnilore course on “The Evolutionary Origins of Religion” is based on the “science” of Evolutionary Psychology (Ev Psych).

Gender Confusion 1A

If you think that special interest legislation does not impact you, read the following pending bills, the majority of which are authored by Sheila Kuehl, an outspoken Lesbian Assemblyperson and member of the Assembly Gay Caucus.

Additionally, there are schools in San Francisco and Oakland that are allowing and encouraging gender confusion in kindergarten classes. Gender confusion with a 5-year old? The schools are encouraging boys and girls to step out of their gender-traditional play with dolls, cars or mud, and even allowing boys to play girls' roles in school plays.

If this is the current psycho-babble on kids, what about we girls who were tomboys as kids? I didn't want to only play with Barbie dolls; I wanted to play dodgeball and kick-the-can and climb trees, and even played boys soccer (before there were girls teams). I got in trouble for playing in the tar in a newly paved street, and even (accidentially) broke my brother's arm!

According to this definition of Gender Confusion, as a 5-year old, I would have been encouraged to explore my desire to be a boy. I would have been labled and forced into considering myself a homosexual.

I Can Only Imagine

Several friends have sent me the inspirational piece by sports columnist Rick Reilly published by Sports Illustrated. It is called Strongest Dad in the World.

I try to be a good father. Give my kids mulligans. Work nights to pay for their text messaging. Take them to swimsuit shoots. But compared with Dick Hoyt, I suck. Eighty-five times he's pushed his disabled son, Rick, 26.2 miles in marathons. Eight times he's not only pushed him 26.2 miles in a wheelchair but also towed him 2.4 miles in a dinghy while swimming and pedaled him 112 miles in a seat on the handlebars--all in the same day.

Book Club Pariah

This is unbelievable! I received this email along with everyone else in my book club:

"xxxxxx,

Thanks for the news but I have to ask that my name be withdrawn from the club. It seems that a member of the book club has set up an anonymous blog that is critical of another member of the club, Julie Angelides and her family. I really don't understand the reason for her blog sentiments and I while I respect her right to say whatever she pleases, I don't agree with her statements or the anonymous "cover" she uses. It would be inappropriate for me to continue to be a member of a club with her....."

so I responded to the organizer of the book club who is also my neighbor:

I just received the email from xxxxxxx. My first instinct was to reply "Oh grow up," but instead I think she's being disingenuous and I want to set the record straight.

The Root Of Liberal Hatred

The other day I wrote about how phony liberals really are, how they buy the liberal image but don't really live their supposed ideology. Yeah, sure there are some who live the ideology, but not many. It's too easy to purchase the image while living well.

Today I want to understand why liberals hate patriotism, hate the President, hate Americans who love God and country, and ultimately hate America.

And don't deny it; everything liberals say and do supports their hatred of America and everything American.

Name the political party that started the Ku Klux Klan to lynch and terrorize blacks, passed the discriminatory Black Codes and Jim Crow laws and fought to prevent the passage of every civil rights law beginning with the civil rights laws of the 1860s, and continuing with the civil rights laws of the 1950s and 1960s. Which party kicked all of the blacks out of federal government jobs in 1912? Which party stood in the school house doors, turned skin-burning fire hoses on blacks and let loose vicious dogs in the 1960s? Which party was opposed to Dr. King’s 1963 March on Washington and had Dr. King wiretapped and investigated by the FBI on suspicion of being a Communist?

Living in the state capitol of California, we are subjected to liberal politics in everything we do. However, the liberals in California are phony. Really, most liberals are phony when you think about it.

They can afford to be liberal. It makes them feel good to espouse liberal ideology. They're not really living their liberal ideology. They shop for it; it's something they can purchase. They shop at REI, Natural Food Coops, they buy Birkenstocks and Prius's. They buy their coffee at Pete's, whose company ideology they like.

Evolution's Head Fake

Basketball coaches teach young players to watch the waist of the opposing player to avoid being faked out of your jock by the dreaded head fake. If you watch the opponent’s face, a head fake will freeze you in place and its Goodnight Nellie. Dunk! As a vertically challenged player, I can tell you that the head fake was a critical weapon in my limited offensive arsenal.

But is the head fake an entirely learned skill or is there an evolutionary predilection that some are blessed with? Since white men can’t jump, did they evolve a wobbly head gene that compensates their jumping deficit?

Get a Job! (Uncommon Sense Radio)

God loves to work! Think about it… when creating the world, he worked six days and rested only one. And when he created Adam, the first thing he did was give him a job.

On the other hand, man tends to have a very negative outlook on work. We can’t wait for Friday to come so that we can leave work and dread Monday, when we have to return. And try to get people to give of their free time to volunteer.

As we are called on to have the mind of Christ, shouldn’t that also include our attitude towards work?

This edition of Uncommon Sense explores God’s perspective of work and our attitudes towards it and those with whom we labor.

The Religion of Liberalism’s creation myth is Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution. I have read a bit about Darwinian evolution and about the criticisms of the theory offered by the Intelligent Design community. I’ve found the criticisms to be compelling, but never have I read a more thorough deconstruction of Darwin's theory than in Ann Coulter’s new book Godless. Cutting through all the mumbo-jumbo about Galapagos finches, peppered moths, Haeckel’s embryos, the primordial soup, punctuated equilibrium and evolutionary psychology, Coulter lays out Darwin’s theory in simple terms.

Jimmy Carter Power

Yesterday I wrote about anti-Americanism as reflected in a book by a typical lefty intellectual. Julia Sweig disparages US foreign policy since WWII and recommends a new strategy based on a policy of “generosity, modesty, discretion, cooperation, empathy, fairness, and manners.” I wondered how well that policy would have worked with guys like Hitler and Stalin. Today I want to discuss the time when Sweig’s policy was actually employed by the US government. You may remember our former president Jimmy Carter’s exercise of soft power in his dealings with the Ayatollah Khomeini.

Bush Signs Bill to Save Cross

President Bush signed a bill today that would transfer the land that the Mt. Soledad cross in San Diego sits on to the federal government. The cross, which is part of a Korean War memorial, has been under attack for years by atheists who deem it a violation of separation of church and state for the cross to be on city land.

What this transfer does is force the issue to be decided in the federal courts independent of the California constitution. The federal constitution has been widely interpreted to contain fewer restrictions on church and state than the state constitution.

Poverty in America

According to a survey by NPR/Kaiser/Harvard, Americans perceive the federal government’s definition of poverty as being too low. The government says that a family of four with an income lower than $17,029 is poor. However, 64% of Americans say that a family of four with an income of $20,000 is poor. Americans are divided over the causes of poverty. About half the public says the poor are not doing enough to help themselves out of poverty, and the other half says that circumstances beyond their control cause them to be poor.

Join others including Senator Tom McClintock, Assemblyman Tim Leslie, Pastor Francis Anfuso (Rock of Roseville), and Joel Johnson (Teen Mania Ministries) in making a public declaration of faith for everyone attending, especially the youth, and to publicly let legislators know that Christians will not stand idly by while Biblical values come under attack. Don’t miss this powerful gathering.

McClintock Needs Cash: Will Arnold Help?

Today Tom McClintock sent his campaign supporters an e-mail explaining that he needs to raise at least $2 million more before the November election in order to win:

We MUST raise over $2 million between now and November to run a winning campaign, and it will take the full financial support of every one of our donors to reach this goal. Your contribution to my campaign, no matter how big or small, will help me get my message out.

But even though McClintock is sure to get support from his large small donor base, it certainly would help to receive some checks for the maximum contribution. And who is best positioned to help him do that? None other than the man at the top of the ticket, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Click it

If you have driven anywhere recently, you have been bombarded by messages on the oh so usefull freeway messageboards telling you to click it. or ticket. My son was the recipient of one of those tickets recently after he un-clicked his belt 1/2 block from our house and was chased to our driveway by a friendly CHP officer. You probably think that this is the result of the nanny state being solicitous about the well-being of its citizens.

Not hardly.

Celebrities Behaving Badly

Hollywood and celebrity crimes are nothing new. In fact, celebrity crimes and bad behavior rather are expected by the rest of us.

So why is Mel being targeted as though he committed the most heinous act imaginable?

Compare:
Winona Ryder busted for shoplifting not just once, but several times (do you think she's crying out for help?);
Robert Mitchum busted for marijuana possession (many years ago);
Errol Flynn, drunk driving;
Nick Nolte is has a few DUI's;
Kid Rock, Chris Tucker and Russell Crowe hit people and throw things;
Christian Slater has been arrested for hiring someone for sex as well as drug possession;
Halle Berry - felony hit and run (sentenced to community service);
Mike Tyson is a cannibal;
Pee Wee Herman (Paul Rubens) is a pedophile (and still an actor);

Coming to a school near you

From the Times of London we learn that British schools will no longer be required to teach children the difference between right and wrong under plans to revise the core aims of the National Curriculum. The revised curriculum also deletes the requirements to promote leadership skills and to teach children about Britain’s cultural heritage.

Nanny State Alert

The California State Legislature returns from its summer recess tomorrow to wrap up the legislative year, and no one is safe. Children, drivers, teens, parents, business owners, activists, workers, teachers, and of course taxpayers are all in danger of having their quality of life drastically reduced.

But there are a couple of bills that strike me as truly the Government sticking its nose into our private affairs: aka, Nanny State Laws.

They still need volunteers. I learned about the project here.
You can volunteer here. and spread the word.

Prison Plan Circumvents Constitution

Tomorrow the state legislature will reconvene to consider, among other things, Governor Schwarzenegger’s plan to fix the state’s prison system. Here is an overview of the Governor’s plan from The Fresno Bee:

Political Opposites Team Up for Hemp

Here is something you don’t hear about everyday. Assemblymen Chuck DeVore, one of the Legislature’s most conservative members, and Mark Leno, one of the most liberal, actually agree on something. But not only that, they are working together.

This rare unifying issue? The legalization of hemp growing in California. The lawmakers have co-sponsored a bill to legalize it.

Rebirth of a UN Resolution

In the “not worth the paper it’s written on” category, the AP reported today on the draft UN Security Council resolution that seeks "a full cessation of hostilities based upon, in particular, the cessation by Hezbollah of all attacks and the cessation by Israel of all offensive military operations."

Chaffee Can Offer Only One Thing to RI Republicans

From Anchor Rising, more background and this quote:

The continual pounding of the message that only Senator Chafee can beat Whitehouse leaves the impression that all Chafee has to offer is that he can hold the seat for the GOP. "Vote against Laffey, not for Chafee." I'm not sure if this pragmatic approach is appealing enough to the more ideologically minded GOP primary voter. And I'm not sure if it does much to help Sen. Chafee as far as laying groundwork should he win the primary and have to face Whitehouse. By leaning so heavy on the anti-Laffey tactic, he isn't giving many reasons for the General election voter to support him. It's a tough spot.

Syrian Delusions

Every time I think that the la times can’t sink any lower on the patriotism scale, can’t go any farther out on the left wing, can’t possibly be more anti-Semitic, or more despicable … another edition comes out and someone tells me about the latest travesty. Today Hugh Hewitt led off his talk radio show with the op-ed written by the Syrian ambassador Imad Moustapha. The article, “Washington’s stubborn failure to communicate” summarizes the views of an enemy of America.

Initiative Analysis

This is an analysis of the first field poll numbers for the propositions on this November’s ballot. The poll results for the bonds are here and Props 83, 85-87, and 90 can be found here. All others were not polled.

Overall, I think voters are in a conservative mood when it comes to borrowing. This is evidenced by the failure of the $600 million library bond in June. An aggressive campaign needs to be launched to pass the bonds; otherwise the recent trend is for voters to say No.

Dems Say No to Wage Hike

Wouldn't you know, the Democrats voted against a hike in the minimum wage. All becuase they feel that heirs to estates (often small businesses) should be burdened with taxes as high as 47%.

So much for sticking up for the little guy.

Freedom Concert

Son John and I attended the Hannity Freedom Concert in San Diego last night. The concert was sponsored by the Freedom Alliance founded by Col. Oliver North, and its mission is to raise money to send the children of fallen US soldiers to college. In four years the Alliance has raised seven million dollars. This was the first time the Freedom Concert has been held on the West Coast.

Sacramento UNION Airport

Sacramento International Airport is an embarassment to this wanna-be BIG city. It doesn't matter if you travel interstate, intercontinental or internationally, our airport is PODUNK.

Sacramento International Airport (which adopted the name before any international flights were "landed") still cannot figure out how to get you off the plane, luggage in hand and out the door in under 45 minutes. And this even in the new travel savvy Terminal "A." It doesn't matter if we are leaving Sacramento, arriving from a trip, picking up a friend, family member or business associate; it always takes at least 45 minutes to get out of the place.

Field Poll Analysis

Today the Field Poll released a survey of about 380 voters on the down ticket ballot races.

The findings were disappointing for Republicans, I won’t deny that. But it should not cause anyone to give up.

Asymmetric Warfare

We are now fighting an asymmetric war where one side uses terror tactics while the other is expected to observe the rules of warfare. In Iraq and Lebanon the inferior power is the aggressor, using tactics that are prohibited by the laws of war. Their success depends on the superior powers, the US and Israel, refraining from like tactics.

The picture above from the Sunday Herald Sun shows Hezbollah using high-density residential areas as launch pads for rockets.

German Farmer Outstanding in his Field

"I couldn't repair the roof if I only bred pigs," said Mr. Gärtner, a self-confident fellow with a spiel that is far more entrepreneurial than agricultural. "We have to compete worldwide these days. Pork from Brazil costs half as much as German pork. Our costs are simply too high."
